Together Macmillan Cancer Support and Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Trust have built The NGS Macmillan Unit, a state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre to improve the experience of people living with cancer in North Derbyshire.
The new £9m centre is transforming cancer services for people in the region, enabling vital treatment, care and support to be given in one purpose-built facility - providing joined up services closer to home.
The new treatment centre allows space for more than triple the previous number of patients, with 21 chemotherapy chairs, two beds and three treatment rooms. With multiple services under one roof, specialist teams can now provide a range of appointments in one place and the on-site Macmillan Information and Support Centre ensures that all patients’ non-clinical needs are met.
The NGS Macmillan Unit is the first of its kind for Chesterfield and gets its name following the generous donation from the National Garden Scheme who have donated £1.5m to the Unit.
You may have cancer, but you still have a life. Macmillan are here to help you live it no matter what. We’ll give you the support you need to hold on to who you are and what’s important to you.
Thanks to the support of local people like you, Macmillan raised £2.5m towards the cost of the NGS Macmillan Unit. But this is only the start of our partnership with Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
Over the next few years, we will be investing a significant amount of money to fund new projects and health professionals at the hospital and elsewhere in Derbyshire. For example, we’ll be funding the Welfare Rights Service at the new centre.
By taking part in this scheme your donations will automatically be restricted to fund Macmillan Services at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, or on Macmillan grants to people living with cancer in the Chesterfield area.
