Championing International Women’s Day 2024 at BRM
To help mark this year’s International Women’s Day (Friday 8 March) we’re profiling some of our female colleagues who have discussed their female role models, their inspirations, and about how BRM empowers equality and a positive workplace environment for all.
Associate Solicitor in our Employment team, Ellie Leatherday, has shared her inspirations and about how her mum motivated her to work in the legal industry.
Who inspired you to work in the legal industry?
My mum was the first to mention law to me as a potential career as she thought I might enjoy it and be good at it.
During the many conversations we had about my future and career opportunities – my mum suggesting that I studied law stuck with me, and it led me to go on to study it at A-Level. I’ve never looked back!
Who is your female role model and why do they inspire you?
Although sadly no longer with us, my mum was absolutely my role model growing up.
She re-trained after I was born to be an accountant and I remember the hours of hard work and studying she put into accomplishing her goal (and the piles of textbooks everywhere!).
She was always so encouraging to talk to and be around. My mum faced some adversities in her life, but nothing held her back and that was something she also strived to instil in her children – to aim high, work hard, and be the best person you can be.
I’ve also held several legal roles in my career, all headed up by successful independent women who were brilliant to be around, especially early on in my career.
How does BRM empower inclusion and equality for its female team members?
From my perspective, there isn’t any difference between how male and female team members at BRM are treated. This is evident in the daily and continuous inclusion and equality fostered by the firm.
