Employment Law Update April 2013
I would like to remind employers of employment law changes which come in to effect during April 2013.
Statutory Sick Pay Rate Increase
Please be aware that from 6 April 2013 the rate of Statutory sick pay increased from £85.85 to £86.70.
Statutory Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Pay Increase
On 7 April 2013, statutory maternity pay, paternity pay and adoption pay increased from £135.45 to £136.78.
Other Changes
During April 2013, the Government is hoping to enact legislation which will remove the requirement for 90 day consultation periods for collective redundancies of 11 or more employees.
The scope of protection for whistleblowing under the Employment Rights Act 1996 will widen so that
disclosures will only be protected where they can reasonably be said to be ‘ in the public interest’. This legislation is expected to come in to force in summer 2013.
